Let me be straight with you.
Rockstar has not released official GTA 6 PC requirements yet. Anyone claiming otherwise is guessing — including us. What we can do is make educated predictions based on the PS5/Xbox Series X hardware specs, Rockstar’s RAGE engine history, and how Red Dead Redemption 2 actually performed on PC at launch.
I’ve been building and testing PC rigs for years. And if GTA 6 follows the same pattern as RDR2 — which it almost certainly will — a lot of people are going to get blindsided by CPU bottleneck. Not GPU bottleneck. CPU.
Here’s everything you need to know before you spend a single rupee on hardware.
Use our free PC bottleneck calculator to check your exact pairing right now.
GTA 6 Is Going to Destroy Weak CPUs — Here’s Why
Most games? GPU-bound. Drop in a better graphics card and you’re done.
GTA 6 doesn’t work that way. The RAGE engine simulates thousands of NPCs simultaneously — every pedestrian, every car, every police AI reaction is processed by your CPU in real time. Add Vice City’s dense downtown traffic, dynamic weather systems, and ocean physics on top of that, and you’ve got a game that will absolutely hammer your processor.
I tested RDR2 on an i5-9400F paired with an RTX 2070. In open fields? Smooth. Ride into Valentine or Saint Denis? CPU pegged at 99%, GPU sitting at 65%. Classic bottleneck — and RDR2 is years old. GTA 6 will be worse.
Bottom line: if your CPU can’t keep up, it doesn’t matter if you have an RTX 4090. You’ll be dropping frames in the middle of Vice City with a $1,000 graphics card collecting dust.
Quad-core CPUs are basically dead for this game. Minimum 6 cores, ideally 8.
GTA 6 PC Requirements — Our Best Prediction (Not Official)
These are community estimates based on console hardware and engine analysis — not confirmed by Rockstar. We’ll update this the moment official specs drop.
Minimum — 1080p, playable settings:
- CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 / Intel i5-10400
- GPU: RTX 3060 12GB / RX 6600 XT
- RAM: 16GB DDR4
- Storage: 150GB NVMe SSD
- VRAM: 10GB minimum recommended
Recommended — 1440p, 60 FPS, high settings:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Intel i7-13700K
- GPU: RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT
- RAM: 32GB DDR5
- Storage: 150GB NVMe SSD PCIe 4.0
Ultra — 4K, 60 FPS:
- CPU: Ryzen 9 7900X3D / Intel i9-13900K
- GPU: RTX 4080 / RX 7900 XTX
- RAM: 32GB DDR5
- Storage: 150GB NVMe SSD PCIe 4.0
One thing I want to flag: VRAM is going to be a silent killer in GTA 6. The RTX 4060’s 8GB limit is going to cause texture stuttering at high settings even if the GPU itself is fast enough. Go for 12GB minimum if you’re buying a new card.
Best CPU for GTA 6 — What Actually Works
Ryzen 7 7800X3D — The One to Get
If you’re building specifically for GTA 6, stop reading and just get this. The 7800X3D’s 96MB 3D V-Cache is purpose-built for exactly this type of open-world NPC chaos. In every open-world game I’ve tested — Cyberpunk, RDR2, Hogwarts Legacy — the X3D chip consistently reduces CPU bottleneck by 15-25% compared to non-X3D chips at the same clock speed.
GTA 6 will be no different.
Intel i5-13600K — Best Value Pick
Honestly? For most people this is the smarter buy. 14 cores, strong single-core performance, and you’re not paying X3D premium. At 1440p paired with an RTX 4070, the i5-13600K produces near-zero bottleneck. You’ll only feel the difference in the most insane NPC-dense scenes.
Ryzen 5 5600X — Budget Option
Still works at 1080p. You will feel some CPU throttling in Vice City’s downtown during heavy scenes — that’s the honest truth. But paired with an RTX 3060 12GB, it’s a reasonable budget build that gets you into the game without breaking the bank.

Best GPU for GTA 6 — By Resolution
1080p — RTX 3060 12GB or RX 6600 XT
Get the 12GB version of the RTX 3060. Not the 8GB. The RAGE engine texture streaming system is VRAM-hungry and 8GB will hit its limit at medium-high textures. This isn’t speculation — RDR2 had the exact same issue at launch.
1440p — RTX 4070 or RX 7800 XT
This is the sweet spot. RTX 4070 with DLSS Quality mode delivers consistent 60+ FPS at high settings in most scenarios. Pair it with an i5-13600K or Ryzen 7 7800X3D and your GTA 6 bottleneck percentage will be minimal. The GPU becomes your natural limiter — which is exactly where you want it.
4K — RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX
At 4K, the GPU dominates and CPU bottleneck effectively disappears. Even a Ryzen 5 5600X won’t throttle an RTX 4080 at 4K because the GPU is doing so much rendering work that the CPU has breathing room. With DLSS Quality mode, the RTX 4080 can hit 60 FPS at ultra 4K settings.
CPU and GPU Combos That Will Bottleneck in GTA 6
I’ll save you the pain of finding this out after you’ve already bought hardware.
These pairings are going to struggle badly in GTA 6 — specifically in dense city environments:
- i3-10100F + RTX 4070 — your quad-core will choke the GPU. GPU sits at 60%, CPU pegged at 100%
- Ryzen 3 3300X + RTX 3070 — same story. Four cores cannot handle GTA 6’s NPC simulation load
- i5-9400F + RTX 4060 — six cores but old architecture. Will bottleneck in downtown Vice City
- Any quad-core + any modern GPU — just don’t. Upgrade the CPU first
If your current build falls into one of these categories, upgrade the processor before touching the GPU. Buying a new GPU for a bottlenecked CPU is throwing money away.

Will Your PC Run GTA 6 Without Bottleneck?
Quick check:
- 8+ cores? ✅ You’re fine — 4 cores? ❌ Serious GTA 6 CPU bottleneck incoming
- 16GB+ RAM? ✅ Fine — 8GB? ❌ Upgrade, minimum 16GB, ideally 32GB
- NVMe SSD? ✅ Good — HDD? ❌ GTA 6 requires fast storage for world streaming, HDD will stutter badly
- 12GB+ VRAM? ✅ Safe — 8GB? ⚠️ Texture stuttering risk at high settings

GTA 6 PC Release Date — What We Actually Know
GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X on November 19, 2026. No official PC date confirmed.
Rockstar’s track record: GTA 5 launched on console in September 2013, came to PC in April 2015 — 18 months later. Based on that pattern, PC gamers are realistically looking at late 2027 to early 2028.
Console pre-orders open June 25, 2026. If you’re a PC gamer, you have time. Use it to sort your build out properly rather than panic-buying hardware close to launch when prices spike.
Best Balanced Build for GTA 6 — Final Word
If I were building a GTA 6 PC today for 1440p with zero bottleneck:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D — eliminates CPU bottleneck entirely
- GPU: RTX 4070 Ti — 12GB VRAM, purpose-built for 1440p
- RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000MHz with EXPO enabled
- Storage: NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD — mandatory for Vice City world streaming
That’s the build. Check how your current rig compares using our free bottleneck calculator.
